Our Process:

Throughout our partnership, we will remain open and supportive, keeping your best interests in mind along with your candidates’. 

  • We start by understanding you and your organization’s unique situation.

    First, we will ask you targeted questions to understand your organization and needs on a deep level. We want to understand all aspects of what a candidate will need to succeed, including skills, temperament, personality, drive, cultural fit and experience.

    Because these conversations are so enlightening, we often end up improving the job description. For example, our experience and deep knowledge of the role of a CIO, combined with our understanding of how that role interacts with the rest of the organization, enable us to create a job description that makes the ideal candidate think: oh, this is for me!

  • Next comes extensive outreach.

    We will collaborate with you to create a short paragraph that we send to our network of industry veterans and insiders. It’s brief and enticing — just the thing to quickly trigger our colleagues' thoughts about someone they know who we might want to consider.

    Our outreach is different because we begin with highly personalized notes sent to people we have a history with — leaders in your industry who know and trust us. These are people with whom we have been colleagues, sometimes for decades. Yes, we also post the job description far and wide, but it’s through these personal relationships that we find the best candidates, be they rising stars or industry veterans.

  • Then we screen candidates, saving you time.

    Next, we screen the best candidates against your qualifications and ours. We get to know the candidates on a deep, personal level and gauge them using our own experience of having been in the positions we are hiring for. Nobody gets to you if they aren’t able to do the job and do it well.

    As we screen the candidates, we also learn and calibrate the search. We will remain in communication with you throughout the process, advising on the status of the market, salary match, competitive intelligence and other data that help you refine your thinking and keep stakeholders informed. On more than one occasion, a client has made a strategic shift based on these discussions.

  • We support you through your interview process.

    We will adapt to your interview process and timeline while continuing to advise as needed. For many clients, we sit in on the interview, present to the board or recommend process enhancements. It’s up to you how involved we become.

    Only a small handful of highly qualified candidates will make it to your desk! There is no wrong choice, but the choice will be based on who feels natural and fitting for your culture and goals.

  • We will be there for you and the candidate, from start to finish.

    When you’re ready to deliver an offer, we will do what you need us to. Some clients prefer that we handle the negotiations, conduct background checks or check references.

    Either way, we are keeping the other qualified candidates warm, ensuring they remain interested if for some reason your first choice doesn’t work out. We even provide training for your new hire, should you wish.
